Nazaré Tedesco is a Brazilian soap opera character portrayed by Renata Sorrah[1]. She’s the main villain from the telenovela Senhora do Destino, which aired in 2005[2]. Nazaré’s story starts when she kidnaps a baby called Isabel, daughter of Maria do Carmo, main character of the telenovela. The soap opera takes place 20 years after this event.
Nazaré is known for being very cruel yet very funny for she mocks and makes fun of every character from the soap opera, that’s what made her famous. She’s notorious for killing people by pushing them from her stairs or stabbing them with scissors.
Origin
The “math lady” or “confused lady” meme started in Brazil, 2016. Nazaré has always been very popular, her gifs are used very often to express reactions and there are several pages that are focused on her memes[3].
The original gif did not have any mathematical formulas, the symbols were added afterwards.
Spread
Math symbols were added over the gif, which popularised it even more. The gif/meme started to be used in varied situations and as its popularity grew it spread internationally. On September and October, 2016, american users from Tumblr and Twitter started to use it.
