Hi, did you know that suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the world? Did you know that over one million people in a year will try or succeed in killing themselves? But anyways, let’s say you think saying kill yourself on the Internet is funny for whatever reason. Maybe you’re saying it to your friends maybe you’re saying it to someone you don’t know, you’re just saying kill yourself. Do you realize your Twitter is public and anyone can see it? Because personally, I don’t make friends with people who say kill yourself as a joke. But the amount of times I see it on my timeline in a day is astounding. So the answer I get a lot is, “Well, I’m not saying it to people I don’t know I’m saying it to my friends jokingly, and they know I’m joking.” Well, it’s not like just your friend is gonna see it, I mean if you really wanted to say it to your friend, you know, you could’ve used private DMs. But no, you tweeted it on your public profile, so now everyone can see it, and even if someone seeing the words ‘kill yourself’ doesn’t make them want to do it, do you realize that almost everyone has had someone that they know that have tried or succeeded in killing themselves? For me personally, two very close family members tried killing themselves, and I’m very lucky that they’re still with me, but it still happened. So to see literal children jokingly saying kill yourself and just joking about suicide and making self harm jokes; that really sucks, because every time I see the words ‘kill yourself’ I think of my family member that tried to swallow a bottle of pills, and I think of my family member that tried to suffocate himself with a rope. Because even though you think it’s funny to say kill yourself to your friend, every single time I see those words I get reminded of how I almost lost two very important people in my life. So maybe you should learn to make a joke that’s funny. Take into consideration that there are people around you who don’t think it’s funny.
