About

Proofster, also known as Proofs Rooster is a character used in image macros, depicted as a rooster asking for evidence or proof in broken English, most of the time in front of a Russian flag backdrop. The macros spawned many MS Paint parodies, and become popular on 4chan’s /int/ board.

Origin

It is assumed that the meme originated from Krautchan’s /int/ board, around the time of the War in Donbass[1]. The rooster originally was used as a slang way to call someone a homosexual inmate (someone ‘made’ homosexual by circumstances beyond their control) on Russian image boards. The images are used to make fun of the way nationalist Russians would demand proof regardless of evidence presented and proceed to disregard any evidence offered.

Origin

On March 25th, 2016, Democratic primary presidential candidate Bernie Sanders made an appearance at a campaign rally held at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. During his speech, a brown house finch flew onto the stage, which immediately prompted cheers and laughters from the crowd (shown below). As Sanders, who seemed just as entertained by the unexpected intruder, tried to resume his speech, the bird approached the Vermont senator even closer by perching on his podium, triggering further excitement and bewilderment from his supporters in attendance, as well as many others online who witnessed the strange interruption via livecast.[1]

3DPD is an abbreviation that stands for 3-Dimensional Pig Disgusting: A statement made by certain members of the weeaboo subculture which denotes that fictional women from anime and manga, or 2D, are superior to normal women and reality, or 3D.

Origin

While it is unknown where the term “3DPD” first took off, it is believed it first gained traction among anime otakus and weeaboos. The idea of men claiming superiority over fictional women against real women first became more notable in 2009, when a Japanese man – who went by his online handle SAL9000 – married Nene Anegasaki, a fictional character from the Nintendo DS game Love Plus. The wedding was subsequently lifestreamed on Nico Nico Douga, resulting in widespread attention and coverage of the event in the West as well.[1][2][3]

Legal Loli

$

0

About

Legal Loli is a term applied to fictional females with prepubescent physiques while at the same time being older than the legal age of consent, sometimes reaching to up to thousands of years of age.[5] While supporters of legal lolis believe attraction to them isn’t the same as attraction to normal lolis due to their different age and mental capacity, claiming this makes them a seperate group from normal lolis (or “true lolis”); critics often argue that their age is merely an excuse by the authors to create a grey area, stating that due to a shared physique with prepubescent lolis they are the same as normal lolis.[6]

Origin

By definition, lolicon is a portmanteau of the phrase “Lolita complex,” which describes an attraction to young or prepubescent girls. However, amongst anime fans, the term loli has come to describe characters with solely the physiques of a prepubescent girl due to the frequently similar physiques of females from varying age groups in anime and manga. This has lead to fans of the loli genre to add adjectives to the term, in order to seperate loli-like characters of different age groups (shown below).

Spread

On April 8th, 2013, webcomic artist Awkward Zombie released a comic titled “Minor Setback.”[1] The comic centered around Fire Emblem: Awakening character Nowi, a member of the Manakete race of dragons who can turn thousands of years old and because of this keep a young physique for an extended period of their lives, showing the reactions of the other characters over her scantily clad attire. Prior to Awkward Zombie’s comic, Nowi’s physique and behavior, alongside her attire, was already a topic of discussion amongst fans of the game, who frequently questioned its appropriateness.

On Januari 20th, 2016, the Facebook page Interstellar Dust created a Starter Pack derivation titled “It’s ok because she’s actually hundreds of years old,”[2] featuring several popular legal lolis who are thousands of years old in their canon backstory. #BernieMadeMeWhite

About

#BernieMadeMeWhite is a hashtag used to joke about the media’s representation of Bernie Sanders supporters as Caucasian during the 2016 Democratic Presidential Primary. The hashtag became popular after media reports of Sanders victories depicted diverse states, including Hawaii, as being “white and rural.”

Origin

On March 26th, 2016, Bernie Sanders won the Democratic Caucuses in Washington, Hawaii, and Alaska. In his article on the victories, CNN’s Chris Moody wrote:[1]

These caucus states -- largely white and rural -- are the type of places Sanders traditionally does well. In order to win the nomination, he must replicate this success in other, more ethnically diverse states that hold primaries, as he did in Michigan last month.

Many online took offense at the statement, especially residents of Hawaii, where the white non-hispanic population is just 26.7% according to the United States Census.[2] In one Twitter exchange about the remarks the following day, Twitter user tokyobrainstorming (Real name: Leslie Lee III),[3] wrote that ever since he had voted for Sanders, he had become so white that he was “bingewatching Friends.”[4] He also used the hashtag #BernieMadeMeWhite; the tweet was retweeted 668 times and favorited over 1,900 times.

Spread

Shortly after tokyobrainstorming’s tweet became popular, user Chris420Redmond tweeted the hashtag along with two screenshots from CNN– one of the above text, and one from two months earlier, calling Alaska, specifically Anchorage, the “most diverse place in America” – this tweet received 1,000 retweets and almost 1,000 likes.

At 5:37 pm, user welknett posted a tweet reading “This isn’t a picture of two friends, it’s actually a before and after voting for Bernie pic,” along with a photograph of a black woman and a white woman embracing. This tweet received 2,074 retweets and
4,688 likes.

As of 8:25 pm, according to Trendinalia, the hashtag #BernieMadeMeWhite was the top trending topic in the United States, and the 10th top trending topic that day. It was the 47th top trending topic the next day, on March 28th, 2016. The hashtag was covered by NPR, Salon, and the Washington Post, among other major news outlets; notably, it was absent from CNN.

About

Netorare (寝取られ, most commonly abbreviated as NTR) is a notoriously controversial genre of hentai featuring cuckoldry (an act of adultery). As a fetish, NTR hentai are designed to provoke jealousy in the audience by proxy by having a character indulge in sexual activity with someone other than the protagonist. This has given NTR a highly infamous reputation amongst hentai fans, who frequently express their displeasure over the genre.

Netora as a Japanese term for cuckoldry literally translates to “taken away by sleeping with.” In typical NTR stories, a heroine will be introduced as having a significant other, be it a husband, a boyfriend, or even just a close friend; who is introduced as the male protagonist. Background

Ace Hardware

Ace Hardware is a retailers cooperative based in Oak Brook, Illinois. Founded in 1924 by Richard Hesse, E. Gunnard Lindquist, Frank Burke, Oscar Fisher, and William Stauber, it was incorporated as Ace Stores Inc in 1927, and was named after the ace pilots of World War I. Ace was sold to its retailers in 1973, becoming a cooperative. Overseas stores in several countries were also established in the following years, with the SM Supermalls affiliated Ace Hardware Philippines putting up stores and Express stalls in various SM malls throughout the Philippines.

Notable Developments

The “Suntukan”

A certain Facebook user organised an event on Facebook calling local netizens to participate at the supposed fistfight, slating it to be on 15 April 2016 at SM City Lucena. The organiser even went so far as to putting up crudely photoshopped pictures of Ace Hardware storefronts to further back up the event.

Lulz ensued soon after the announcement, with netizens mockingly pledging support along with roleplay accounts posing as fictional characters or satirical depictions of celebrities for humorous effect. Copycat “events” also sprouted online in response to the imaginary brawl.[1]

Reaction from Ace Hardware

Needless to say, the Philippine subsidiary of Ace Hardware wasn’t pleased with the satiric announcement, denying any claims of a Suntukan[2] at any of their stores and discouraging netizens from posting similar forms of “digital publicity”:
